As the title says ,

I have a bare shell that is ready for painting and im going to brush paint the underside in chassis paint, however i also want to paint the inside of the car and inside the boot. Both are already painted with no rust so what do i do to prepare for the primer ie is scotchbrite or wire wool good egnough or does it need a proper sanding and if so what grit.

Hi,
Im nearly at the prepping stage and also wondered if after scuffing up the existing paint and odd bare metal areas, would it be ok to flash a couple of coats of etch primer over everything before adding a standard grey primer?
I always use an etch primer on bare steel but would it still key/etch itself to existing paint?

Sorry for the hijack by the way....

Scotch pads will key the paint, but any imperfections will need to be sorted with wet and dry (plus filler if really bad :P). then etch prime any bare metal (no need to do the whole panel, just cover the exposed metal although it is fine over paint too, just expensive and no better than primer) and then on with the normal primer and then top coat

Scotchbrite works fine, never use wire wool on cars, it breaks up and goes everywhere, then rusts and you can never get rid of it.
