It depends on your insurer, as the methods insurers use to calculate any increases in premiums for modifications can vary. Many of them use the formula of a directly proportional increase in premium, to reflect any increase in BHP. So if you're insurer uses that method, then you could be looking at a 20% hike in your premium for a stage 1 kit, (as stage1 kit manufacturers claim an increase in power of up to 20%) and I should imagine that could add up to being a fairly big lump of cash, if you happen to be a young driver.

Ring them and ask! :P

As unhelpful as this may seem, there really is no straight answer when it comes to insurance! It may make a massive difference to some people, and almost nowt for others. Ring and ask buddy, it'll probably take you 10 minutes top... Quicker than waiting around for us lot to answer you! :D

i have declared a stage 1 kit on my SPi, i was 17 at that time as well and it didn't alter the premium whatsoever mate, im insured with adrian flux, they always seem to be the cheapest on comparison sites, maybe because they specialise in classic cars and modified cars... ;D

to be honest mate i wouldnt bother telling it for such a minor difference and even if you (god forbid) bin it, im sure most assessors wouldnt pic it up as it just an exhaust and air filter.

pop the bonnet and a quick look down the back and the first thing you spot is a non standard tubular manifold, followed by a peek round the back to confirm the pea shooter tail pipe is missing

even my gran would spot that

Some bad advice here. The difference between an LCB and a standard manifold are blatant.Yes there is a possibility it may be missed but is it really worth the risk.Insurance companies look at any and every exuse to evade paying out, dont help them.Always declare any modifications. If your unsure about anything dont take the risk and ask your insurer prior to buying/fitting anything if there will be any changes.

Let's be clear on one thing, insurance assessors are not stupid!

Plus part of their role is to reduce the amount the insurer pays out, so if they can find any justifiable reason to declare a claim as invalid through undeclared performance modifications or any other cause, then they will. Also as a young driver you usually have to pay out many thousands in insurance premiums each year. Now that's an awful lot of money to pay out for insurance that ends up being invalid and not actually worth having in the event of a claim.
