to be fair lads i only gave my opinion. i thought that's what forums where for.
Yes they are, but when your opinion involves giving out advice that is wholey irresponsible and that encourages others to essentially commit insurance fraud, then you should expect some rather strongly worded responses. Frankly your opinion is nothing short of dangerous in my opinion, and I thought the whole point of forums was not to give out dangerous advice!

fair enough thats ur opinion and i see your point, i know myself as im at the same stage as him and was robbed for insurance last year,
my seeing on the opinion is that when your that age and put money/ effort into a car like a mini you tend to drive it alot more sensibly than say the likes of a corsa or polo.

I have been on the unfortunate side of an accident when I was run over on my motorcycle by a BMW,
There is so much on going insurance hasle with accidents
Mines lasted 5 years after having many operations. Say If the BMW that hit me had a modified air filter & exhaust that was un declared. That would have been enough for the insurance to say right drivers not covered policy is void everyone's stuffed ect.
I would be in a very different position for the rest of my life & probably wouldn't be able to support my family all because of someone was lying on their insurance.
I declare everything with insurance
So make your own choice but look at it as its insurance for others just as much as yourself !

A bit harsh to go as far as saying insurance fraud an air filter and standard looking exhaust From a stage one would only be notice to a mini person a police officer and insurance would not notice.
worst comes to worst if you have a modified mini Pay or fix for your own repairs if insurance is an issue Like half the modified cars owners in the UK .

To be honest i don't think it matters to much you could Delair mods you do to your car. the insurance company will still try to do anything to get out of paying out worse comes to worse, known plenty of people to do this only to find their insurance will still not pay out over the mirrorist most nigaly thing I.E a CD PLAYER. Have you declared your change in Audio? errrm i thing not

For the record yes my stereo is a declared modification, but then there is also a very big difference between failing to declare ICE and cosmetic modifications (i.e. those that might increase the chance of a theft or vandalism claim), and failing to declare performance modifications, that could increase the risk of an accident and a subsequent massive personal injury claim.
Unfortunately like it or not, if you knowingly fail to declare any performance modification to your car, then you are trying to pass of your car to your insurer as something that it is not. Any subsequent claim would therefore be an attempt to defraud the insurer, as you would be claiming for something that you knowingly have not paid the cover for. So whilst it may seem like a harsh description, that is essentially what it is, (which incidentally has nothing at all to do with who might, or might not, notice the modification). On that note, do not under estimate insurance inspectors/loss adjusters either. These are not the dim wits that answer the phone in the call centre when you ask for a quote. They are specialist automotive engineers who are paid to go over vehicles with a fine tooth comb, to assess damage and detect anything that may have contributed to the accident/claim. Do you really think it's beyond them to do a little research before going to view what is well known to be an enthusiasts and therefore frequently modified car?
Also, my idea of worst case scenario really isn't that I might have to pay out for any damage to my car myself. If my insurance was declared void, my main worry would be that I would be financially liable for any life changing injuries to a third party, including the cost of that persons care and loss of earnings for the rest of their natural life, a sum that could potentially run into millions!!
