This may have been asked several times so sorry if it has. On minispares website it says the coil gcl 143 is for 1275 factory electronic ignition cars. However minispares in westmidlands advised me to get the gcl 217. However this on there site says its for ballast ignition and 998. But then it's says it's a aftermarket replacement. I'm confused would it be ok to use

so the one you have is the unipart one if it works fine
then the black one as on mine should be fine
this coil thing is a pain in the arse

only started to think of getting a coil as i wasnt getting a spark, and managed to get a coil to use for testing purposes, then magically i got a spark, but its gone dead again.Yh i have the unipart one, so the one minispares recommended is in fact no good to me then? I did see another thread on here which said to use the black one you have. i asked them a few times if it is the correct one for a metro 1275 engine with factory electronic ignition and he said yes.

This exact same thing happened to me. Went to go get a new coil (electronic ignition 1275) and thought I needed GCL143, went into minispares west mids and they suggested GCL217, going with their advice I ended up purchasing GCL217. It struggles to start the engine and will be replacing with GCL 143

GCL217 is definitely wrong for a factory electronic ignition. It's a 9v coil for ballast ignition.
As other have said, you need the DLB198 or equivalent.
