Hi.

Got some ramps but thinking that the gradient may be a bit steep and the front valance will catch.

any tips on overcoming this? I've got a few ideas but I'm sure many of you would have dealt with this problem before and nothing beats experience.

cheers

Tow tall are the ramps? I've used them quite a few times. Just I bit dificult to get onto front ways. wheels just spin. Too much speed and you go straight over! ha

Do not drive down an incline on to the ramps. I learnt that the hard way!

About a foot high and 4 foot long. I remember nearly driving a fiesta off the end of them about twenty years ago until a passer by's look of horror made me brake.

Maybe two thick planks of wood on the approach to give the front of the car some inclination before you're on the ramp.
Do not rest the wood on the ramp, just but it up against the bottom?

I've not tried them yet. Maybe im concerned over nothing. Just pre empting.

Sounds like a plan dave. Could even hook the plank to the first rung somehow so theres no chance of the ramps sliding.

Never had a problem on a Mini, as there is no "overhang" at the front.

The Volvo (760) is a right PITA to get on the ramp though even when it was at normal ride heigh which was MUCH higher than a Mini. Now it's a bit lower I have to use a few blocks of wood in increasing heights before the ramp. With a Mini if it's a problem get some pieces of decking onto the first "rung" of the ramp, should be strong enough for the front of a Mini...doesn't work for the front of a diesel Volvo though!!

i got mine up on the ramps fine, i just slid the ramps accros the floor into the bottom of the tyre so i could get a bit of a headstart and avoid the slipping. only problem i have had is getting my mates clio on them which ended up splitting the bottom of his bumper lol.

if the wheels start to spin before you can get onto the ramp and the car just pushes the ramp back get some carpet strips and double them under so you drive onto the carpet first and it pulls the ramp under the wheels of the car.

I have two sets of ramps - one modern set of a ladder construction are absolutely useless for my 10" shod car - having tried them once I wouldn't again as the "rung gap" i.e where the tyres crosses is too wide and I do fear for the front valance too as the angle of attack is a little too steep.... halfords jobbies. The other set is ancient inheritance and have a plated track and a smaller platform and lesser angle of attack - absolutely perfect and have no hesitation on using them for the mini - so I guess it's choose your ramps with your car in mind.....
