Had the gearbox refurbished and a 3.1 fitten, I assumes it would have the 3.44 diff as its an A+ however I am told its a 4.1

Is it more valuable that a 3.44 or common as muck?

It's an A series gearbox not A+, which is what surprised me first when I received it... The 4.1 is not normal by any means...

A 4.1 is unusual, is it standard fitment or LSD?

4.1 is really only of use for hillclimbing, so supply=demand and prices are the same as any other CWP.

4:1 was very common in the past as it was fitted to many Austin and Morris 1100's

In a Mini a 4.1:1 FDR gives just over 13 mph/1000 rpm in top gear. So 5000 rpm in top will be 75 mph.
Very good ratio for a 970 or 1071 'S' race, hill-climb, sprint or rally Mini with the ability to rev to over 8000 rpm and with a SC CR gearbox.

Agree with the above, apart from 5000 is 65mph with that ration using those figures, I do know people that run 3:9's and still drive to the events, but a 4:1 would not be pleasant in a road car for any distance

However, you'll now be enjoying the relative silence of 60mph @ just over 3k rpm.

Just out of interest based on Mini Spares 5 speed box . Best of both worlds with a 3.44 diff :)

To be honest, most people would not notice the difference between a 4 speed box fitted with a 3.1 and one fitted with a 3.4
