Twin rear fogs are ok. ERAs are fitted with two as standard. As far as the MOT is concerned only the offside one has to work.

cut the wiring to your left hand reversing lamp, wire your fog lamp up to that and then just put a red bulb in the cluster.

Looks clean and keeps it symmetrical.

You seem to be concerned about keeping it legal so don't fit the fog lamp into the reverse lens. Especially the left one! It's a commonly used mod (on the right hand side at least) and in fact used to be marketed by a company as a kit but it's not legal.

A second optional fog lamp is legal, providing the lamps form a symmetrical pair as said above. And no, the optional lamp will not be part of the MOT.

I have two mk2 Fiesta fog lamps on my mini to clear the centre tailpipe,

I've since fitted an RC40 and got rid of that nasty Sportex system, but you get the idea.

If you have rear over riders, then you will probably have problems if using standard fog lamp brackets. In my experience if you use the standard brackets, either the the lamp becomes obscured by the bottom of the over rider, or the boot wont open fully if you move the over riders inwards, to clear the fog lamps. I seem to recall that you can buy an extra long bracket though, that moves the lamps outwards slightly, in order to clear the over riders.

I prefer symmetry, two reversing lights and two fog lights, both fully legal. All cars look better that way. I hate to see just one of each, because it looks like, and is, penny-pinching by the manufacturer.

Which leads to the argument about whether you should have two tail pipes, or one in the centre....

This has been discussed quite recently. The fitting of the fog lamp does not comply with the legislation regarding the positioning of a fog lamp in relation to other lamps (even fitted on the off-side). However, this is not a check performed on the MOT, so as long as it's on the off-side it should pass.

I have just done a similar mod to one of my kit cars, so I'll let you know how I get on with the MOT ina few weeks!.
