hi guys , ran into a bit of a problem today and it starts with me not covering myself in glory...

on way home from work, my car ran out of fuel :( embarassing moment over, once fueled up again, the car started up fine and seemed to carry on as normal, idling at lights with no problems and driving very very smoothly seemed ok.

Once i tried to give it more beans, the car spluttered, stuttered and what seemed like misfiring, with the exhaust popping loudly once in that time. but continued to idle fine.

once parked up on my street, whilst idling i blipped the throttle a couple of times and it continued to splutter, misfire and so on. but still continued to idle as per normal.

left the car for a couple of hours and tried again started fine but continued to splutter when on throttle

i identified the carb a while ago as a SU HIF type, when adjusting mixture and what not last summer.

up until this point the car has been running fine

any help etc would be a massive help
cheers

ollie

I'd say you've sucked some crap out of the tank by running out...It may clear, but could mean carb may be partially blocked or fuel lines need blowing through.

exactly what it was mate, took it out for a good drive, still started to splutter etc and then as i travelled further and faster, picking up the revs, it all started to clear, until the problem vanished, drives like a dream again.

thanks :proud:
