Hi all my Mini is completely dead, and after trying to jump start it off two different cars still nothing, when I try to turn the engine over there is just a faint clicking noise(I'm guessing it's the starter motor). Anybody got any advice, as I don't want to pay a garage a call out fee to come and pick it up.. Cheers

Yup, your battery is really dead or you have a loose power/ earh connection........

A car "should" start with a jump. You could try tapping the starter motor as it could be stuck.

cheers

Cheers for the response mate, just checked all connections and they all seem fine, even tried to bump start it and I have rattled the starter motor and still absolutely nothing. The battery in it is only 4-5 months old and is still under warranty, so i will change that to see if that has any effect.

Try push/bump starting it, if it starts, then its probably a starter motor problem.

I've tried jump starting it off two different cars and no joy, and tried bump starting it a few minutes ago and nothing, really think the mini has had it

Does everything run when the battery is connected, lights ,wipers etc and do you have strong ignition and oil dash lights when you switch the key if not check the earth strap to the battery, remove and celan with emery cloth including where it is attached to the body then try again.

Absolutely nothing runs mate, the battery light used to come on when I turned the key but now that doesn't even come on, I have tried cleaning both terminals on the battery itself and cleaning both connection points from the car. It just seems completely dead and I don't have a multimeter to check the battery strength :(

A faint clicking noise would suggest solenoid to me. Do the other electrical devices work ?

Sounds daft, but how did you try and bump start it ?

ok. when you try to jump start the car did you connect the leads from one battery to another, the reason i ask is that all you will be doing is trying to charge a dead battery. Disconnect both positive and negative from the mini battery and connect straight to the jump leads and check for dash lights

Had my neighbour push the car down the street and i had the ignition switched on and the car in gear, just tied it to the back of his car and he drove round the block and i tried starting it in gear but it was completely dead, reckon it's worth getting a new battery?
Ohh and the radio did work when i turnned the key, but now absolutely nothing works..

I connected the leads proper and used metal from the mini as an earth, if i disconnected the mini connections how would I check the dash lights, silly question i know..

if you connect the one end the jump leads to your neighbours car the other straight to the negative and positive leads on your mini and check for dash lights.
