broken stud

just tring to remove a broken stud from the gearbox casing of a 1275 and the stud extractor (the type that you drill then screw in) has snapped in the hole. Because this is harddened i cant drill it out and screw a bigger stud extractor in niether. You can get to the rear of the stud niether. :'(
any ideas on how to get this out would help. cheers

Got plenty of cases here... - Which one you after?

but have you tried welding a nut onto whats left of the stud to get it out?
