Ive just about finished rebuilding my engine and decided to buy a new alternator, ive fitted the top two bolts but I dont know how to fit the tension bracket. I dont know which way round or what bolts where?
If anyone could explain or even better with pictures,
Thanks.

The plain hole goes at the front (on the alternator), you want to push the bolt through from the right and put the nut on the left to ensure the bolt doesn't foul the fanbelt during operation.
The slot goes at the rear in an inverted arc (U shaped).

You should have the nut and bolt on the alternator loose enough to allow movement and the bolt at the rear loose.

Pull the alternator up and forward to tighten the fanbelt, (if you've a handy helper get them to hold it in position), tighten the alternator bolt by holding the nut still and tightening the bolt (thereby pulling towards yourself rather than against your helper.
Onec that's tight nip the other one up, check belt alignment and tightness.
If satisfied torque them both up to recommended amount (I'd guess about 40Nm), and job done!

Check belt again after a week or so to make sure nothings moved.

Thanks for youre reply, so the bolt hole on the tensioner bracket bolts through the bottom Alternator hole?, if so does it bolt on the fan side of the Alternator or the inside.

The bottom bracket solid hole goes on the alternator the slider in the arch bar connects to a extended bolt with a 3/8 dia coming off the engine

One tip - make sure the alternator pulley centre is in line with the water pump pulley and crankshaft front pulley. If the alternator is not in line the fanm belt won't last long. It's a common problem and to get the pulley centre in line you may have to use thin packing washers.
I hope this helps.
