Haha it made me smile at least..

Got the loom all fixed up. When i disconnected the fuse box one of the tabs broke off it was that rusty. Not sure it was the cause but will replace it as it wont help.

The red and wire stripped to bare copper right across the length of the bulkhead so i'm fairly sure this was the one that had some extreme current going through it.

What wires go to the starter as my thghts are with the lights on it made current flow through the starter feed..

Now its all repaired i guess ill get a new fuse box and try it out..

have you by any chance changed your headlights recently for some "extra bright" ones?

No but i think your on the right path.. About 3 months ago i added a modern temp gauge with a bright internal light without fuse or relay to the side light light circuit, green and red. And last month I replaced the battery as my old one was going flat.

Maybe it could be a mix of this light (its quite bright) straining the light circuit and the new battery chucking out more power thats caused it to overheat. Could this be the cause?

When i connect it back up i will add a fuse and/or relay to my gauge lights and hopefully that should stop it happening again.

Thanks again for your advise.

I doubt this small extra current would be the root of the problem. However, you might have wired it up wrong or created a short to ground somewhere without noticing. This would draw a lot of power on the one hand and might also be the reason for the battery to have run flat. Are you sure the live wire for said gauge is not touching the chassis anywhere? (an uninsulated bit, that is, but insulation can also shear off if a cable is routed in an unfortunate location).

I fitted a boot lid liner since i last drove it. I'm guessing the rear light housing is connected to the same circuit.

Maybe when i drill the holes to but the cover on i drilled through the loom and shorted it. I will check it tomorrow as its the only thing wiring wise that i could have shorted since the last time i drove it..

Problem found.. Fitted a chrome number plate light housing recently and when i fitted it the positive wire came disconnected and earthed against the light housing. Somebody had previously bypassed the bottom fuse on the fusebox with a 30amp spade fuse, instead of 15 amp glass one because the fusebox terminals had corroded. So instead of blowing, it set the green/red wire on fire and burnt my loom.

I have squashed the terminal on the light housing and have a new fuse box and some glass fuses on order so will get that fitted with correct fuses.

To test the loom repairs i connected it up and the only thing not working are the sidelights, which i had to replace with a whole new wire. So i need to get this wire sorted and then retape up the loom with loom tape and hopefully back to normal.

Thanks again for everybody's help!
