£1000 for 40yr old tyres!? Surely new, tread replicas will be far less expensive and surely safer?

How old are they, if they are older than five years then they will be past their shelf life.

I asked this question on the grounds of safety. Having bought wheels that had tires that were new but however were five years old. these were removed from the rims and the beads on all four tires were damaged due to age. There was also cracking in the side walls due to the rubber hardening.

The tire fitter then then mentioned the age issue. This is the reason i asked how old the tires were.
