Hi I am Ruben From Malaysia.I bought a MK1 mini. I rescued this mini from a small village not too far from Kuala Lumpur. The registration papers indicated that it was attached to numbers matching a MK2Cooper. A little tricky this mini! The engine number was 9fdsah and chasis number was KA2S6. When I bought the car it also had MK2 rear lamps fitted on it but rear windscreen was smaller in width unlike the wider windscreen as per the MK2 which actually has narrow rear side pillars and slightly wider rear windscreen. Some other parts in the interior identifies the car to be a MK1. It had MK1 rear view mirror, handbrake, the steering column, the horn push button was in the centre, the rear side windscreen were also the flutted type hindges. Other than this all other accessories have been removed such as seats, speedometer was 90mph, but it had the GB 10inch sport rim/wheels

The shell is a Mk1 hence and I am In the midst of restoring it so it matches a MK1 cooper specification for the interior and exterior accessories/fittings. Refitted the rear MK1 lamps. Recently cleaned the floor dip switch and there was a stamping indicating year 1966. I purchased the car in 2010 and I have since done the welding required and primed the car. the rust infestation was minimal considering the age of the car, but I had to change the front floorboard, side under pillars-below the doors. Also recently dropped in a rover mini 1.3 spi, F77 engine but coverted the wiring so now it runs on HS2 twin carburetors. the A plus engine is more reliable and breathes better i reckon.

I have kept the original engine which was fitted with the car when I bought it. Over the weekend I decided to clean and curious what engine it actually was so I opened the rocker cover and found a stamping indicating 12G202 and the another stamping on the engine block indicating numbers 12A497. Has anyone come across these numbers, just wondering what is the actual cc of this engine? Its not a 998 cooper engine as per the chasis/engine numbers thats for sure!! Anyone knows what this engine capacity could be?
The size of the files taken from phone seems to large to be uploaded. These is the link to my photos of my mini....Hope someone could help me in identifying the engine. Thanks

The rear lamps look a bit on the high side!
12A497 is the casting number for the block but it could be a 997, 998 or 1098 you need to measure the bore and stroke to be sure.
12G202 was the cylinder head for most 997 Coopers as well as most 1098cc versions of the Austin and Morris 1100 models.

Welcome!

I cannot comment on the numbers as 62S did. I just want to congratulate you on your find and work to date. Though trivial to some, I especially want to say I like your fan. I have a similar one in my car which I mounted below the dash rail. That fan is a Godsend on hot summer days.

yes your spot on 62S, your right the Mk1 lamps were fitted higher, I actually bought the mk1 lamp plate from Minispares, but the fallers who did the welding lack the detail knowledge of the correct positioning..unfortunately

Thanks dklawson! yeah fitting this fan is a MUST here in Malaysia, as temperatures during the days get as high as 33, Degrees!! Lots more to be done on my mini, im going to paint it tartan red than got to work on the upholstery!
