I thought it'd be a good decision to get myself a fire extinguisher to keep inside my Clubman just as a precautionary measure against the unthinkable. I bought myself a 1kg powder extinguisher with a bracket from Halfords for £30.

My question is, where have people installed them in their own cars. I'd ideally like to position it in the passenger foot well, but am a bit concerned about it being accidentally set off.

I've stupidly put mine in the boot haha, been meaning to relocate it at some point to the cross member.

£7.99! Damn it! Yeah. It's got a pin on, but it slips out quite easily. The pin has a hole in the end so might put a safety pin through it or even a small length of solder might do the job

Mine's under the passenger seat on the nearside of the car, in that little cubby hole. Easy to reach that way. I used a strip of sticky velcro to secure it and it hasn't moved since, no need to drill!

Assuming it's a powder one (I think foam ones are best for car use but they are massive and expensive) make sure the safety pin secures it properly. Take it back to Halfords and swap it if it doesn't. Should it go off accidentally it won't be funny - your interior will be ruined and if you're in the car at the time you won't be able to see/breathe :ohno:

I've removed the rear ashtray and mounted mine longitudinally along the tunnel. Easy to grab and out of the way of front seat passengers.

I had one under a seat once (Sherpa not a Mini) and the wretched thing went off going over a bump...
Dry powder if ingested can make you turn inside-out in about 20mins from either end - which luckily didn't happen to me - but put me off sitting on an extinguisher again.

Under the rear seat overhang would be my choice, or a rear pocket. Just remember to move it if you load the car up !

You can just see the 2.5 litre AFFF extinguisher mounted in front of the cross member on the passenger side.
