1992 Carb mini, A+ 1275 with electronic ignition module

I initially bought GCL217 from minispares under advice from the people there

I was then told I need GCL143. I've since ordered this coil and checked the resistance between the terminals with nothing attached and getting a reading of 80 ohms.

I thought electronic and non electronic coils have different resistances so checked this against my old one and also getting 80 ohms.

The new GCL143 i recieved also looks nothing like in the minispares website, it has a silver body with black plastic front instead of a black body with a brown plastic front.

So do I have the correct coil for my car?

I haven't yet tested this coil out, but will do shortly.

wire it up mate, do you have a switched live feed for the coil? i had to run one for my GCL143 coil.

(someone more knowledgeable can advise you more)

80 ohms is a ridiculously high resistance for a coil. I think you need to check your multimeter. What does it read with the leads shorted together, when it should read zero? My guess is about 77 or 78 ohms.

tiger89, i realised after i had posted this that the multimeter scale was set differently, and actually was reading 0.8 ohms.

cal844, i think it has a live feed from the starter solenoid. Will wire it back up and check tomorrow mate.

petey81, i think it actually had a sticker on the back reading dlb198, sounds promising! It also has an intermotor sticker on it.

GCL143 is LLB198. I went through a few coils before realising that's the correct one for a late carb cooper.

Your third coil? You measured them all and found 0.8 Ohms?

What seems to be the issue with your engine that you are replacing the coil?

After replacing the battery, plugs, HT leads, cutting out cracked wiring and replacing with new wires and terminals it was still not starting on the first couple of turns. I've pretty much renewed everything apart from the ignition module.

I wired up this coil today and fired up pretty much instantly so issue resolved =]

Thanks everyone
