Right need some opinions from your learned chaps.

On the slightly laughable possibility that Ogy stops being a temprimental sh*te and stays working after this weekend. I'll be cracking on with the new install.

Here's the run down for those that have forgotten:

Up front is a set of Genesis Audiophile 16.03 getting its juice from a Genny P4
In the back is a JL 10w6v2 fed from a Genny sub amp
HU is likely to be an 80PRS

Now, the question is about placement.
I was going to expand the right side boot enclosure to accomodate the JL at it's prefered volume of 20L but that cuts into boot space, rarely used but still handy. The seat behind the driver however will never be used for anything except the wheelchair, so I was considering making a bin enclosure and putting it there instead. Any pitfalls to only having one sub in the cabin off centred?

Component wise, I currently have some AP pods under the dash. Initially I was going to mould them into the dash (retaining the AP) roughly in place of the air vents. Only thing is the speakers are 6" er's so it might be a bit massive on the dash.
Other options are recessed in the arch (Ruckus dogbowl style) or on the doors in these (with pods fabricated onto the back):

Which brings me to my second question.

Staging, higher and nearer ears is better but would the extra distance from the wheel arch / door pockets be of greater benefit to the imaging compared to the dash mounted option? I'd gain maybe 12-18" by lower mounting which would allow the sound to expand more.

Any thoughts are welcomed.

Cheerios.

to be honest i dont know about the rest, but I know about the sub! The positioning wont matter, with good sub bas you should be able to place it like higher frequencies, which is why deadening will help a lot wit that.

My opinion on the speaker placement would be try and incorporate the speakers into the dash (even though they're large) and have the tweeters above them on the dash rail. I would think that would give the best imaging, seen as it gives the best uninterrupted(ish) position. As there either firing into your ankles/legs when positioned on the lower door/under dash.

Cheers dude,

I was pretty sure about the sub position, just want to get some confirmation before making the enclosure that I'm not going to be getting a one sided feeling as I'm only running one.

I was leaning towards dash mounted (tweets will be on top either way) as it's easier :P But then had some resevation about how in my face it might be and that the wave may become too narrow.

Copy BlueTurboMini's positioning (ignoring the small mids), best imaging I've ever hread in a mini and wider than the car. :D
Stage hight might be a bit low though.

And he does have time alignment ...

So low door mounted then, is what you're saying? Might have to adapt that to low on the wheel arch if that's the case as I have a suspicion that I won't be able to get my feet past then in the doors.

I'll have a practise tomorrow when I get to the garage on the door : foot space.

80prs has time align :mrcool:

Dammit, you edited as I was replying.

So, where would you suggest. keep them on the arch for best of both worlds? But dash is out, right?

LoL my ninja edit was not so ninja.

Every position in a mini has a negative.

Using the door for the Mid bass will give you a lower sound stage.

But it has the benefit of having the whole door as air space and maximum width. You also have the off axis roll off helping to equalising the speaker nearest to you.

Again putting the tweeters in the corner of the side windows means stage height is low. But the width IMO makes up for it.
If you move them up the A pilar you have two problems.
Due to the rake of the front screen they end up to close to you head, but if you move them to the inside (windscreen edge not door edge) then the stage width becomes very narrow and compressed.

My tweeters will be moving to the top front door cap postion this summer, by the way. With bubble mids filling there current location.

Okay, some tweeter pod plagurising it is then! :gimme:

I'll check out the foot room clearance tomorrow, if I can drag them into the car without bashing the door cards (which I'm unsure about) then I'll mount on the doors and if I can't then I'll mock up some arch based ones - will it be acceptible?! ;D

At the moment i am slightly moving the angle of both my midd range and tweeter positions to try and raise my stage height.

Your bottom mids, or your middle mids?

Based on what the big Ruck has said I'm thinking of going with either the door mounted or arch mounted, but angled similarly regardless.

Out of curiosity, how did you attach your tweeter pods to the door?
I'm fairly set on keeping my own ones on the dash, but hopefully can fit them in such a way they maintain a good stage without being on storks :P

Translation:
Do I put my speakers up high so they are more pointed at my ears or lower down so that being further away the the sound spreads out and fills up more space (ish).

The smart guys say that lower and wider is better for the mid range and higher and pointy'er (but still wide) is best for tweeters.

Ish
