I wonder out of all the people who slate a turbo has actually owned or even driven one, having owned over 40 mini's in the last 14 years nothing has come close to the versatility of a turbo mini

I'll assume that was for me....... :-

Actually I have not driven a mini turbo no. I have driven a few metty turbos, mg mettys, "higher spec" minis & suzuki Turbos, (oh, and a stonking great 3l turbo motor!) though!

But what do I know? I haven't owned 40 minis and had a bad day. :o

All this isn't to say I don't like turbo motors. In fact quite the opposite. But of a choice between a "lower spec" Turbo, and a better spec N/A, the N/A suits the characteristics of a smaller car better. It also gives you a much more flexible choice of where to go next. It suits the clutch life better too.....

But this is starting to get into arguements now. Not what is needed. You have your opinion, I have mine. That's what WLTM wanted to hear, and he's got it.

The sound of a screamer on twin webers on full chat too...... Mmmmmmm........ :(

having driven my mates 1293 turbo that we've just finished building i can safely say i'll never own another n/a mini again.

he's gone down the T2 and mirage manifold route and the difference between that and my conventional T3 setup is unreal. there's absolutely no lag at all, the turbo is starting to spool as soon as you pull away, it even makes boost pulling off my drive.

My Minis been Turbo'd for nearly 8 years now & i've got to agree with Bud, i'd never have a nat asp A-Series again, not for a road car anyway. Having driven a couple of decent 1380's both with 100+hp they just don't compare. The torque produced, even by a mildly tuned Turbo motor is superb and means you don't need to screw it like you have to with a high power nat asp motor.
I've also been running a T2 for over a year now & this is probably the single best mod you can do imo.

i was in the turbo mind when i started to build my mini a year ago now, i got the metro turbo engine, bulkhead bow and ither bits took it to bill richards he said fine do want 5-10 psi or 14-20? i said the later he said fine u can bring it back every 6months for a rebuild if u use it as a daily drive, i said why he said with that power i will race it loads and where it out fast!!! and he is a legend, he said a race spec 1380 would be fast enough and more reliable and i dont rev mine past 7000rpm which and keeps it fresh, this just my opion but if u want forced induction go for a super charger, a 16v head with supercharger is my next project!!! just a thought!!! cheers!!!

I think you're missing the point entirely.
Any high power A-Series is going to need a lot of looking after and regular inspections/rebuilds. Why would a supercharged 16v need any less maintenance than a similar power Turbo motor ?

Phil.
