The Mk1 MG Turbo had curved vents they where handed for this very reason.

Rubbish.........

Interesting comment backed up by ???

Since 1983, date of the first MG Metro Turbo, I have had 5 Mk1 turbo's and replaced numerous brake discs bought from or fitted by Rover, up till 1987 I was still getting curved vented discs from Rover dealers they came in Rover packaging, and where handed LH & RH

Ah right read it again now and I know what you mean now...

My discs are metro vented discs machined down to 7.9, so the vents are cast in...

With MiniSport (45th anniversary calipers) and they are rubbish I've tried everything to get them right and still not happy with them..

A family member had one of the very first ones.............with straight vents.........

After market discs where possibly straight but not genuine Rover discs.

You must have either been mistaken or aftermarket items had been fitted or they where fitted after about 86/7 onwards.

I have to say no I've never spoke to them about it.. The pedal has no feel, and they don't stop the car.. It takes a huge amount if force to lock the wheels up.. I've drove cars with the old MiniSport
Calipers and with cooper s brakes and they were miles better than mine..

I have changed the MC to a single line with bias valve, 3 different brake pads.. I'm thinking of binning off the rear minifins... If not it will be new front brakes..

Why bin the Minifins ?

Yes, I have to wear boots to be able to put enough force on the pedal..

If you look at the caliper whilst someone presses the brakes you can see them flexing...

I have even had brake fade..

I just thought I'd take the mini fins off to see if they are better..

If you mean the caliper, then stop driving the mini and talk to MiniSport .... this is very serious

All things flex (semi solids and solids anyway) but if you can actually see it then its very wrong in this case !

Yes the caliper, you can actually see it move away from the disc on each side...

Car is in storage at the moment and I've had the brakes for 4 or 5 years now but I will contact them later in the year...

Dont want to jump in here sounding like I no it all but a few years ago i had a vtec conversion and at the same time had a big brake conversion all brand new.
It was a hole kit from AP and fitted by a mini specialist it had all the fancy hoses and everything was new even the rears which were standard mini. Anyway to get a solid pedal you had to double pump, we checked everything but everything was good, the garage said it was the calliper flexing which you could clearly see, so Monday morning the garage called Ap up and explained what was happening and they said it was normal to see a calliper flex as it was doing, the pressure applied at this point should be enough to stop the car .
In the end It turned out that the master cylinder which was a new metro turbo one counldnt supply enough fluid in one pump to the callipers. When they fitted a servo to it the brakes worked and felt right.

Its not normal someone was pulling the wool over your eyes

There will be flex but not so much that you would see it ! it would be difficult for most to measure it, as specialist equipment would be needed.

Double pump ? this is a system design issue or a fault such as a leak. System design issue, the total area of the master cylinder piston/s against the total piston area of the caliper/s expressed as a ratio if the ratio is excessive in either direction then you will get either one of the following issues...

1) very heavy brakes :-(
2) Long pedal, which in your case means the pedal goes to the floor :-(

both of which are very dangerous and potentially seriously lethal

martin.....I used to have to double pump my metro turbo set up, otherwise the pedal would pretty much go to the floor ..... everything was new when fitted but aftermarket discs and pads, the flat faced versions.....it was cack......thats why I now have a set of MRA super-mahoosive brakes and it stands on its nose if I just dab the pedal :D

Ok, I have spoke to kad today and it seems we are all correct, they like the grooves facing forwards as this helps chop the pad and stops them glazing and this is how they are designed to be. But they then said there is nothing wrong with them facing backwards as in the photo as this way the dust if flung out backwards.

I hope this helps.

Apart from the damage to the pads and potential damage to the discs, extra noise may also be an issue..... Did you ask them if they have conclusive test results with the discs facing backwards....

Now as the likes of Brembo, Tarox, AP none of which will have the discs facing the wrong way, all for good reasons.

No I didn't ask about test results on the grooves facing backwards, but I can defiantly vouch that over the last 7 years of racing with the kad 6 pot set-up with grooves facing forwards that I've had no issues with pads breaking, discs warping or any noise from them. But then I have only used them on a race car and not on the road.
