hi all, i cant get the spotlights to work on my 1993 mini, they are a standard fit from new, the relay is clicking on full beam/flash and the headlamps work fine but the spotlamps wont work at all.
i have taken the front off the spots and run a wire directly to a positive and negative source, one of the lamps worked but the other never (bulb).
if one of the bulbs has gone would it prevent the other from working?
i ran a wire from the blue/white main beam wire to the blue/yellow wire on the relay and the spotlamp that works came on so the feed from the relay works fine, i have checked all of the earths etc and they all seem fine as well.
i then ran a wire from the blue/white main beam wire to the blue/yellow wire on the spotlamp that didn't work and the one that does work lit up!!

any ideas anyone??

cheers.

Sounds like either no power into relay, or the relay isn't switching properely

but would the relay not "click" if there was no power to it?

I had this once on a standard rover setup.
Went mad trying to find the issue. I've ended up replacing the wiring and the swtich feed too..

a relay works like this

Its basically a magnetic switch

you have a switching circuit which turns on an electric magnet...for the lights it will have a negative feed in, and a feed which comes from the switch..when you switch them on its this circuit which goes live and turns on the electric magnet..making the click. pins 85 and 86

You then have another circuit which is live power in, and power out to the spots...(only live when the magnet is live) pins 30 and 87.
