Hi all. Quick question about engines mounts. The new ones I've got both have the groove in the end but with the ones I took off only one had a groove while the other was flat. Does this make any difference. The new ones also have welded securing nuts but I would have thought that the bolts would have to come through these holes to bolt the wheel side of the subframe ??

The welded nuts makes them captive so that you dont have to fiddle around trying to hold the nut whilst tightening the bolt, if the weld is preventing the bolt going through then run a tap through it (not sure what size that is exactly)

How can you tell if the mounts are bad and need replacing?

But is there any problem with using 2 with grooves? The old one had a flat face.

Be VERY careful if using the mounts with the captive Rivnuts nuts on. They are easy to cross thread and then the nut breaks away from mounting and just rotates. The bolt then cannot be removed and has to be ground off and the mounting scrapped. On some of these the Rivnut is Metric not the correct imperial thread.
A lot of us simply will not use that type of mount due to this problem.
Also some non-genuine mounts are slightly thicker than the original and genuine type which can make getting gher mounts to line up with the sub-frame holes virtually impossible. Use only genuine mounts.
Finally, lightly grease the outer faces of the mounts to aid with sliding the engine into the exact position.
