afternoon ladies and gents,

this summer, i'm driving the short run down to the south of france.
not a great deal,

but i'm doing it in a Rover 100.

is there anything that you guys know of to make these little machines more reliable and economical over the 800 miles or so?

i'm guessing tyre pressures, a good service etc is the norm

cheers for your help

BR

A European breakdown cover policy. Can't think of many worse scenarios than being broken down in a foreign country without it.

They are good motors, we drove my wife's metro Rio all over the place, including a 600 mile round trip in a day to pick up 2 basket case motorbikes. As long as it has been well maintained it should be a breeze, but breakdown cover is always good for peace of mind.

Just copied and pasted this, Its easy to forget these:
  • A GB sticker clearly displayed on the back of your car - unless your car has 'Euro-plates' (number-plates that show a circle of 12 stars on a blue background)
  • Your motor insurance certificate
  • Headlamp converters (stickers you put on your headlights when you're driving on the right, so your lights don't dazzle motorists coming the other way)
  • As of 1st July 2012 it became illegal to drive in France without a NF-approved (Norme Française) breathalyser in your car. Drivers who fail to comply with the law risk having to pay on the spot fines of 11 euros (£9), although the police are operating a grace period until November.
  • A warning triangle and reflective jacket for use if you break down or have to pull over to change a wheel or deal with any other problems. The reflective jacket must be kept inside the vehicle (not in the boot) so you can reach it without exiting the vehicle. If you don't have these, you could be fined around €90.

i have a metro 1.1s and i drove it to scotland and back. it didnt miss a beat and it was very good on fuel, at the time we got from braintree to bradford on £25 i think fuel was around £1 a litre then.

if thats anything to go by then you wont have any problems.
