Hi guys,
During the current build, the front subframe has been installed and uninstalled a handful of times. In my particular case, which I have read is quite common for the 2 subframe towers not aligning to the body and requires a ratchet strap to pull it together correcting alignment.
I have found that with the solid mounts, ones that replaces the rubber items under the tower bolts, aligning of the subframe becomes more of a challenge. Since mine has come on and off the car more than once, the threads on the main bolts are damaged half way up the threaded section. I am now concerned about threads in the subframe.
Could it be that the solid mounts are less forgiving for the bolts because if any slight angle was required, it cannot be met whereas rubber ones can flex? I am also thinking that the pulling of the two towers together with the ratchet strap may contribute to alignment issues, where the increments in which the ratchet tightens are too large and will either pull it too tight or too loose?
Worst case where the threads in the subframe towers are damaged, what do you guys think the size of trouble/effort to fix it would be?
