Just after a general bit of guidance on current hill climb regs. Since i last hill climbed about 10 years ago there seemed to be a tightening up on things like removal of rear parcel bins and seat swab.

I'm wondering if i can sort out my own car as its 80-90% there. Engine is 1380 with 296 cam, air box for DCOE 45 on 5" manifold, sccr box with 3.7fd. S brakes, roll cage etc. Body shell is all steel keeping inner wings but with grp bonnet.

Problem is i have perspex windows, parcel bins and rear seat have gone and no headlining is fitted. So in practice what are the limitations of the road going catagory?

With the the Dews speed series offering loads of local events and chance to race with loads of other minis, im quite tempted, just prefer to be in the road going class.

If you run in the DEWS series you will have no problems. You would be able to run in class 3. As a member of the DEWS series (although I need to register again for this year :shy:), I can say it is a very friendly series.

If you were to run in any other championship etc, I suspect you would end up in modified production.

Class 3 looks a little lonely with only 2 entrants, but i could give it a go before changing the car.

I also have a brake bias lever mounted on the back seat. Also no heater (sure this is a requirementy for road going, of all things!). The DEWS page refers to road going conforming to p326 of the blue book (dont know which year), does anyone have a copy?

I'm loving the videos at the bottom of this page: http://www.bjautobit...s-galleries.htm

Sorry that should have been class 2. :shy: If you give the comp sec a call or drop him an email, I am sure he can tell you what you need to know. But remember within DEWS we are a little forgiving of some modifications etc.

The last video is my car at Wiscombe. The long one with Paul Sheppard in the blue MK1 is incredible, his times belie the look of the car.

Where are you based?

Im in north Dorset, 15-20 mins drive from Gurston, last drove there 10 years ago, apart from the DEWs event in 2009. I dont think there was a road going class at Guston jusy mod prod, soon after i stopped if you didnt have rear parcel bins you ended up in sports libre!

The DEWS series is good starting point to use you car within the road going class. Depending on how modified your car is and what class you will ultimately run in will become the scruitneers decision on the day. As you're in Dorset why not come down to the clay pidgeon sprint on 7th April. This should give you some good starting points & you could always have a chat to a scrutineer at the same time for clarification.
