Year of vehicle = 1992
Model of your vehicle = Cooper

Hi all,
Had my Mini on the road about a month and its been driving fine uintil I broke down this morning on the way to work. I was wondering if maybe you could help?

Last night I had trouble putting the car in first and second gear. Thought I would see how it goes and have a look at the weekend...big mistake!

Same thing was happening for the first to miles driving to work I changed into 3rd then as i went to change to 4th the gear stick came really loose and eventually the car stopped then stalled.
I tried to push the car over to the side of the road but it was stuck in gear. In the end I had to put my foot on the clutch and use my other leg to push the car. An interesting morning work out to say the least!
When i got it to the side of the road I started the car again and it cut out had a wierd sound coming from the enigine when i took my foot off the clutch.

I'm going to tow it home later with a mate and have a look this weekend so i was wondering if anyone had a suggestion? I've not done alot of mechanical work on the car but I have a garage with tools and am willing to get stuck in.

Cheers in advance Liam

Sounds like the clue is in the loose shifter

If you're lucky the roll pin on the selector, or the bolt on the fixed rod, being loose/missing would be the
starting point, before going further into the box
