I would be going for bonnet pins to be in keeping with the look of the car.

Don't use the springs, they damage the paint O_O. Use some small rubber ones or bonnet pins ;D.

Duz fasteners or leather straps on bonnet small and tidy, what regs that you need them for. I ran just on the boot lock for 6months racing but found that the lock moved every race as its single skin with small rubber.

I use the small springs and covered the area where they touch with clear fablon. This is on my 1990 Rover Cooper. But on my MK1 I use a leather strap, more in keeping with the period.

I agree, use leather straps. I've used then for years. They are good & give a nice period look ( don't get the cheap black ones). By the way I like your rear tow hook. Where did you get it from?.

Personally I would go for pins at the back and springs at the front. You should remember that if you have a fire or an off, the first person to take the bonnet off will likely be a marshall and not you. If they have to mess around with fiddly straps or catches they will simply rip the bonnet off, your safety is their first concern and they won't bat an eylid if they have to damage your car to get to a problem. If you have springs and pins, they are easy to get undone, therefore they are likely to undo them. It could save damage in the future.
