I'm off for the MOT on Monday and decided to check my lights etc this morning. It seems that the hazards have decided to choose this moment to misbehave. The flashing speed is not regular: they are OK for the first couple of flashes, and then get slower, and then flash irregularly. The indicators are absolutely fine.
Model: 1989 Racing
From what I can gather, I should have a separate flasher unit for the hazards, and it sounds like it is on its way out. Does that sound right/probable? If so, I will buy a new one (I think it is this, right? http://minispares.co...k to search#mwp). I will also keep my fingers crossed as clearly this is not going to be fixed before Monday...

PS
It seems that Halfords units are not highly thought of, but might this work in the interim until I can get one from Minispares? http://www.halfords....tegoryId_165538
Thanks!

Check them against the bulbs you have. The flasher will say something like 21W + 1 or something, which indicates (tee hee!) the wattage of all the bulbs. I had a right old mix in mine. The outside temp may also have an impact if its really cold, the small contacts on the relay wont react as fast. I read on here something about converting to electronic relays which negate most issues and takes less than 15 mins to install, maybe do a search on here.

Thanks: the temperature might be the issue, as I went over to the local motor shop to see if they had the right bit (they didn't) - when I got back I tried again and the flash speed was fine. I think I will take the long way round to the MOT station to make sure everything is nicely warmed up... The electronic relay conversion sounds sensible, something to put on my to-do list.

Thanks, that looks like a sensible buy.
I mentioned the problem to my aunt, who had three Minis in the 70s and she said straightaway that it'd be this unit, that they're easy to swap and that it's always better when the car is warm!
