Firstly I'd like to say I'm posting this from Australia and Rover mini's are a bit rare here so parts are almost non existant. I was wanting to fit a 5 speed to my 1995 SPI and was hoping someone could point me in right direction to getting one. I don't want a straight cut (too noisey) and want 5th as an overdrive, we have long stretches of highway here. I've looked at a few suppliers but there doesn't appear to be a lot of info. I'm a mechanic by trade so I'll fit it myself but I'd like a complete set up so I'm not waiting for parts to finish off. Any help/link etc would be appreciated.

minispares list them but showing out of stock over £2000 thou, wouldn't like think what it would cost to ship.
what about changing the final drive ratio ??

Changing the final drive is a cheaper and you will actually get a longer drive in 4th than you would with a 5 speed and overdrive..
The reason is, most, if not all, 5 speeds run a 3.4 final drive, which even with an overdrive 5th only results in an overall ratio of 3.03:1, where as changing the final drive to 3.1, gets you almost the same, and a 2.9 and 2.7 are available if you want to go longer...
The benefit of the 5 speed is you still get that 3.4 acceleration in the first 4 gears, whereas you would loose out a little with the 4 speed and a long final drive, but this is where upgrading the engine to produce more torque may be cheaper than an extra gear.
