Yes, I don't expect it to be tight, but the next size down will should go on, which would tell something. But will the plain part of the pin not be very close to 7/16" diameter? I would guess that the clearance would only be about 10 thou on that part. Decent spanners are quite closely toleranced.

A vernier caliper is a useful tool and you can often find the electronic type cheaply, just perfect for situations like this, but my thinking was that not everyone has one yet, many people might never even have had the need to buy a steel rule, but everyone has spanners.

Yes that is correct, I didn't want the OP or anyone else reading this to think that it should be tight, this is often the case when people measure threads, I have had people come to and ask for some really weird threads,,,,, the best one has still got to be M15.875 x 1.5 pitch ??? it was 5/8" UNF

Just found it was a bad connection in the caliper guage so i just mesured it & came out at : 11.34 m

Are you sure its 11.34m ? mm maybe but not metres (m)

It should NOT be 11.34 the basic OD for 7/16" UNF is 11.11 ie without truncation

Ha ha yeah sorry was supposed to be two m's  .
Maybe the reason for the size diffrence is because of the galvanising ? Is pretty think stuff of which adds 5% weight to the part thats galved.

Well you now have a dilema... on the one hand your subframe is scrap as nothing will fit, on the other hand if you attempt to remove the galvanising from the important areas how are you going to ensure that you only remove the zinc galvanise and not half the fixing etc......

From a safety point of view you have to be very careful what and how you do whatever it is you decide to do.

As many Mini owners have found out hot dip galvainsing usually distorts subframes and renders them useless, try to fit it before you go to any trouble.

i have already tapped out the threads on the subframe to radius arm bracket bolts,it isnt a hard bolding to clear out/off the thread i just needed the thread size.

There doesnt appear to be any distortion but as you state,i will see when mated up to the shell.

To the OP - in my opinion, what I think you are asking, and what I would do is this. the thread on the Trunnion pin is 7/16in UNF. To clean up the thread use a die. Just like you already have cleared the other internal threads (5/16inch UNF) with the tap. Install the frame without the radius arms to verify the fit. Use some copper slip grease on the fixings. Bingo jobs a good one! if it won't go then it could be distortion. A certain amount of heaving may be possible. Hope you get it fitted ok
