Hi folks,Im recently had my subframes galvanised & need to tap & die the threads but dont know the thread sizes.
I need the front twin tower bolt hole thread sizes...
Front subframe thread size for captive nut next to top arm pin (goes through pin plate)...
Rear subframe rear trunnion bolt thread size....
& i already know that the rear radius arm mounting brackets to subframe thread sizes are 5/16th's unf but thought i'd mention it so maybe a member of staff can pin this topic for other people to see after comments from knowledgable tmf folk (cooperman were are youuuuu ).

Thank you

Subframe top is 3/8" UNF. Top arm pin retainer bolts are 1/4" UNF.

No i mean the stud in the rear of the rear subframe of which the rear trunion slips onto then bolts up.
Think its a bolt welded into the subframe from production.

Thanks
Cliff

If its the one that has the bush slip over it then its 7/16"unf, im sure of it, however measure the diameter of the thread....

It is definitely a UNF thread, and a multiple of 1/16", so just measure the diameter if still in doubt. The only real possibilities which are close are 3/8", 7/16" and 1/2", and as mra-minis has said, it will be 7/16" anyway. A decent steel rule is good enough to check, if you don't have a vernier caliper, or try to see which spanner size fits over the thread (not the nut). You will most likely have a 7/16" open-ended spanner in your toolkit, and you will find that it fits.

It wont be a tight fit though as the tool to nut (7/16") will have clearance and the thread will be truncated (topped)

Yes, I don't expect it to be tight, but the next size down will should go on, which would tell something. But will the plain part of the pin not be very close to 7/16" diameter? I would guess that the clearance would only be about 10 thou on that part. Decent spanners are quite closely toleranced.

A vernier caliper is a useful tool and you can often find the electronic type cheaply, just perfect for situations like this, but my thinking was that not everyone has one yet, many people might never even have had the need to buy a steel rule, but everyone has spanners.

We know that, but getting it checked with a measuring device or even a spanner is a confidence-building measure. If we explain how to check, the guy will learn how to find out for himself next time. I always feel that it is better to help people to find out things for themselves than just quoting sizes at them.
