I had lots of the usual problems with cold starting and running on my 1973 998, and regularly having to replace the contact points and condensor. I fitted a Powerspark replacement 25D electronic distributor and coil (www.simonbbc.com) and now it starts on the first touch, runs really smoothly, hardly needs any choke from cold and fuel economy is better too. Excellent conversion - would recommend it to anyone, and the company are very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Apparently they sell hundreds of these units, so the odd one may fail but don't let that put you off, they would just swap it straight away. You'll never look back and the difference in running is really surprising. I asked them specifically about the advance. They say that they measure all of the distributors on their dyno that they have in house so they can match the older curves with each unit they supply. Some of these advance settings have changed over the years because of the fuel so most of the curves take this into account too.

Yes they seem to be a really worthwhile upgrade from the outdated contact points and condensers. Forgot to also mention that Powerspark give 3 year warranty too!

I've also brought a dizzy from Simon did have issues but nothing that couldn't be sorted and he was helpful.

Worth considering just buying the electronic module alone, Britpart also make a version which is very cheap. If you dizzy is in good nick and you just want to remove the points.

This post sounds very much like an advertisement? Are you connected to this company in any way?
