looks to be quite a decent project. i wish mine was in this condition when i started, not a bodged and rusted car

If yours was worse it must have been made entirely of filler!

Welded in a bit more for the scuttle and offered the scuttle up to cut the excess off

Posted Image

Anybody spot what's missing?

Posted Image

I did battle with the subframe too which is now stripped and in the scrap pile as it's properly rotten

Got stuck in the boot area today, there's a good 8mm of filler in places but no damage bar a dent less than 10mm across by the light, looks like someone got carried away filling it and couldn't be arsed to sand it off

Posted Image

The valance lip is also completely shot so will need a new one welding on

The passengers door is reskinned and ready to go, the drivers beyond repair with extensive rust and bodge damage to the hinge area so I have sourced a replacement to reskin

Haven't had much time on it of late but am waiting for a door post from Minispares before I can proceed further up the front end of things

So was the subframe only held in with one bolt that side?

Yes, they'd plated over the mount in the boot and only re-drilled the hole on one side. The other side consisted mostly of rust so that wasn't much better!

This car is a bit of an oddity, it's been plated to death with 3 lots of inner sills in places but they've used zintec sheet and stone chipped it after

And today's bodge is...

Note the grinding marks from where I removed a second patch that was over the top of the whole lot

Posted Image

I waved the air chisel at them and the patches just fell off O_O

That is shocking. Someone will have paid good money to get the Mini through an MOT,and all thats been done is piss poor welding.Garages seem to get away with bodging car don`t they.
Anyway keep up the good work and if it starts to pee you off just walk away and leave it for a few days.

Chris is the poor bugger - he's buying the panels!!

Been a bit slow as I've been waiting for an outer A post and front drivers floor pan from M.Machine but they are finally in

Posted Image

It's had a new inner A post too as they were both completely shot. Note for others - don't use a non gen a post if you are using the bit below the bottom hinge, the fit is terrible. I did get it to fit OK but only after sectioning it

Made a new stiffener for the cross member end and welded the inner wing on, starting to look less holey now!

Posted Image

All there is left for this side is the outer sill and jacking point, then it can go on the other side to rise and repeat

On the other side now, the previous owner hadn't sussed this welding lark by the time they had made it to the other side...

The shiny stuff is Zintec that has been used to plate the inner sills

The outer sill is off and I've braced ready to remove the inner tomorrow

This I really am not looking forward to, it's a rust sandwich between the lower crossmember lip and the bulkhead
