Do Tim rev counters work with Minis with the points removed and running one of the replacement hall effect trigger units ?
Rev counter is the model here http://www.minispare...20.aspx|Back to
My ex Midget RVC one steady at a constant throtle but is bouncing about when reved hard through the gears, could have it overhauled by speedy cables but at £75 + vat and P/P but I feel the rev counter looks to big in a mini at 100mm
they do a 80mm one witha adjustable red pointer but with P/P thats not far off £120+
Anyone running one of the Tim ones with either a aldon igniter or Accuspark/Powerspark?

I'm running a smiths but i'm 99% sure these are RVC rev counters, but worth asking minispares before buying one

Also if your rev counter is this type:

you can buy the later type gauge which is much more reliable and swap the internals so you can keep the 'period' look:

I have the 100mm one now and think its to big for a mini and the 80mm size is better so my RVC will be surplus when I decide, I rang Minispares and the only info I could get is "well no ones complained" so I suppose thats a good sign. I'm watching a 80mm one as we speek so wont buy anything unless it right and period.

I do not have one but...
Over the past three or four years several people have bought TIM rev counters without the instructions. Once they got wiring info from board members here they had no problem hooking them up and getting them working correctly. You should be fine with the TIM rev counter... regardless of points or electronic ignition.
Virtually any modern voltage pulse sensing tach should work for you. There are a few other less pricey options you may want to look for. I don't know how common they are in the U.K. but there are a steady stream of used VDO rev counters on eBay and they typically sell for very reasonable prices. There are also lots of boy-racer tachs on eBay but they may not be what you are looking for. There are a couple of Japanese tachs I have seen surface over the past couple of years that I am interested in seeing. One is by Defi and the other is a copy of the Defi made by "Depot Racing". Both are small stepper motor tachs. It is very likely that both companies offer larger (80mm-ish) tachs at about the same price.
EDIT: Never mind about VDO. I just took a quick look at eBay U.K. and noticed that there are almost NO VDO tachs there except for marine ones. However, I did find something that might interest you. Take a look at this TIM tach. eBay item 190799775216. It's 80mm and comes with the mounting pod. 5 days to go!

Thanks for that, yes saw the ones with the change light which you assumed right not period for the car, a smiths 80mm would be ideal and I'm watching one of those, but the Tim one is period as I had the exact same one in a mini 20yrs ago
