This is my step dads mini, its a 1986 Automatic Mini Mayfair, 1 lady owner from new not including the garage it was stored in for many years. Its done under 9000 miles and is in perfect condition. One of the arches was a little scratched so we had them all resprayed but other than that everything is original.
Despite being a mini lover since a kid, this is the first mini I've ever sat in, and driven.
Here are some photos, its due a good cleaning, so sorry for the dusty dash ;)
What do you think? He said that because there's not a spot of rust on it, he's saving the body shell for a restoration project in the future, but should he touch it considering its low mileage and totally original?

As uncool as it looks I think it should be left alone. It looks completely original, although 80's Mayfairs in original condition may not be sought after at the moment they may well be in the future. It's even got the nimbus grey bumpers and trim which are hard to find.

It's an automatic....unfortunately it probably wont ever hit decent value by leaving it alone......esp going off the ORIGINAL 1960's automatic Mini's I've seen go for not that much....

My step dad is thinking about converting it to manual, but once you start messing too much its no longer original.
Yer chances are it will take a while before it goes up in value if ever. He did get it at a good price and he has been offered almost twice what he paid for it.

SNAP!!!!

Here's our 1986 Mayfair, also in Champagne, with just over 9000 miles and again, one lady owner before us. Ours is a manual though and has got the optional alloys that were dealer fitted from new but, I do think your step dad should keep yours automatic. Auto minis are great to drive as many on TMF will tell you.

Neither, he should let me take it and pamper it.

Little original minis like that are few and far between now.
Shame to pull such an original mini apart to chop into another?

Haha, for a minute there I though't someone had robbed it >_<
Whats makes it even spookier is that we have the same airfresher too O_O

Never!
I'm not a fan of owning a car and not using it (that's what they are there for), but its not my car so I have to get permission to let him/her out (not got a name yet).

Do NOT tamper with these Mayfairs - they look FANTASTIC! Now this makes me think twice about where I want to go with my car's restoration in the summer...I thought my 25,000 mile 1983 Mayfair was low!
