I work early mornings.. At like 4am so it is essential I have my lights haha, but I was just about to set off for work the other day and I have a small problem with my switch anyway, where my dash lights sometimes don't come on with my lights, so I have to have the switch in a specific place. This happened and I flicked my lights off and when I turned the switch back on no lights came on... Nothing happens "/ I've checked all fuses and they're fine, I've taken the switch out and cleaned all the pins etc inside.. And still not working.. What could it be?? I'm pretty sure it isn't the relay but correct me if you think I'm wrong. I can hold the flash stick in and still get high beam from flash but not high beam from pushing the stick forward (when it stays on)

If the dash lights are not coming on, it is almost certain that the side and tail lights are not on either. It seems that you urgently need a new light switch. They do fail from time to time, nothing unusual there. I don't know what model you have, but in most cases there is definitely no relay in the light circuit.

I have a '91 city 1000, and I'm sure I does have a relay because sometimes when the switch ain't on properly the relay makes a hideous buzzing noise.. But cheers I think ill try a new switch

Most likely as mention the switch as they are only the cheap rocker type, but failing that its volt meter time and check the feed into the switch. and out will tell you.

The only relay is the dim-dip relay, it can't really stop the sidelights working but can cause problems with the dipped beam. Check the condition of the wiring at the headlight switch connector. Probably does need a new switch though, and sounds like you need a new dip switch too.

The dip switch takes its feed from the main switch, so if the dip is working in any position then I would suggest the dip switch, however the main switch is fairly cheap so it would be wise to get one at the same time, try the dip switch first, and see what happens
