How many threads on here start with "I now this might be a stupid question but...."

So, I know this might be a stupid question but I have a 94 Sprite which had 12s on it. I want to put 10s on. I can get the front sorted out easily enough and will switch to discs at the same time, but do the drums on the rear fit both 10 and 12 inch wheels? There's lots of talk on here about changing to 7.5's discs on the front which will take a 10 but nobody mentions the size of the rear drums.

I've just bought
BRAKE DRUM REAR WITH BUILT IN SPACER "S" 1275GT

http://www.minispare...drums.aspx|Back and suddenly thought that I may have done the wrong thing. I woke up at 2am when it dawned on me I hadnt checked this out.

Any help?

Cheers

also remember that you will need a set of 8 "long" wheel studs for the rear drums as they are wider that the standard ones.;-)

I'm a little confused as to why you need to switch to discs on a '94 Sprite which would have been fitted with discs as standard. Loads of threads mention the rear drums when dealing with a disc conversion. All the drums are the same diameter, all wheels will fit over them whether 10", 12" or 13". The non spacer drums are used with front drums or with Cooper 7" discs, the spacer drums are used with al other front discs. The change is needed to correct for the wider track width of the later disc brake setups although a little additional spacing may be needed to clear certain wheels. If your car is a '94 Sprite it should already have spacer drums and discs, the only thing you will need to change to be able to use 10" wheels is the size of the front disc and the calliper associated with it. If you choose the 7.5" discs then you will also need to change the drive flanges. A better bet would be to use some aftermarket alloy 4 pot callipers designed to run a smaller disc on the standard 8.4" driving flange. Mini Sport and KAD both make such callipers in a few different sizes giving you a range of options depending on exactly which wheels you intend to use.

Noticed a few people saying you will need longer studs for the drums you've bought.
This advice can be ignore as your car should already have spacered drums fitted, the only thing you need to change is the front brakes for whichever set up you decide.
Personally I'd check that you do have the spacered drums, and if theyre ok then send the old ones back, then put the money towards the front conversion

Hi

Thanks for all the advice. Let me explain that while I didnt know if the rear drums would fit 10 inch wheels, I can tell you that my 94 Sprite had been modified. It had drums on the front so I bought the 7.5 kit from MiniSpares. While I am on that subject will I need different drive shafts?

On the rear the drums had no spacers. I have bought drums with spacers so I hope that will do the trick on the rear.

Thanks,

RodAndTom

How long is 'long'. There are 55mm, 58mm, and 78mm. Which do you suggest?
