Hey guys. When I bought my car I had a 1 1/2 carb on with the inlet for that carb. I have now changed to a hif44 carb and was wondering if the inlet is going to cause me any problems? I have found an inlet on mini sport but I don't know what the hole is on the top that is threaded? Can anyone tell me what it's for? It's on the pic below
Cheers

Yes you should fit a new manifold, that threaded port is for a brake servo. It can easily be blanked with a grub screw (possibly 5/8" UNF about 5/8" long from memory, I can check on that if you like) and sealant if you don't run a servo. Many manifolds actually come with a plug fitted there anyway.

its a vacuum take off for a brake serve, you can blank it off if not required

Wow cheers for the quick responses. I'll get one ordered now. If I run the 1000cc inlet for the time being, will it do any damage or cause any running problems?

Have you already fitted the carb to it? I wasn't sure if the flange would even line up but if it does you might find you get bad air leaks what with not having enough gasket surface or enough screws. That would cause problems and potential damage. What sort of 998 have you fitted this HIF44 to? It's too much carb for most of them.

Yeah the carb is on and fits ok. It seems to run ok too. The engine is a 1275 but the guy who had it before me said he fitted a 998 inlet and car to it. Don't know if that possible or not?... But the car was too small anyway. Everything on the car is a mix of many different cars.... It's truly amazing and scary lol

Check the size of the inlet manifold hole, some are 44mm but can have a HIF38 fitted. They are designed to work on both carbs (not sure how well on a 38) Minispares do one for both, not sure about minisport. If it is one of those then there is no need to change. Worth checking before you fork out on a new one.
