Okies so those who saw my last post saw I drilled holes in my airbox to allow more air in (mesh optional) ;D

Pt1
http://www.theminifo...mpi-airbox-mod/

So Today I got hold of a Dremel and cut out/off and sanded down the circle bit in the middle where the TB goes into.

I decided to keep the mounting/bolt tubes as not to over tighten and warp the lid, possably causing gaps between it and K&N filter.

also i cut the little 90 degree extention that the funnel goes into.

Middle cut out..

Took minimi for a drive and did notice it pics up quicker, but doubt I'v gained much more powaaaaa
But its all about gettin as much air in there as possable...init ;D

Read mod pt1 as im getting bored of repeating myself >_<
Edit, 1st reply reads harsh (not intended that way) but inside its just the opening to the TB and a K&N , the mesh is from my supermoto mods, to help keep crud goin in or midgets ;D

Does that big standard intake have any mesh?

Edit OK I read the other thread.

Is there any need for the mesh at all? At this point it is pre-filter, and the original mouth to the airbox is much larger to get foreign bodies in compared to any of those new holes.

I doubt it needs it to be honest, I used to do it on my supermoto's so its a force of habit...kinda belts n braces thaaaang ;D

I have another question, did it really warrant a new thread?

Wow that was a bit harsh!

To be fair, a second thread wasn't really needed but oh well...

Not harsh in my opinion.
i'm sure if you ask a mod or a member of staff, (im not realy that fussed) that they will be happy to merge the 2 threads together.

I stand by what i said, as a user you have the option of scrolling and ignoring threads of any kind (I do)

You will have to test this obviously but you might find the raised ring in the centre was there to provide some sort of ram pipe effect, albeit a low budget version. Or it might just have been a noise reduction measure. Either way some sort of small ram pipe grafted into the bottom as low as you can get it (to avoid choking up the open space as far as possible) would probably be beneficial. Maybe with a dome above it on the lid if you can get it lined up with the base properly.

interesting thought, how high in your opinion (minnimum) from the base of the housing, I might be able to fabricate somthing at work.

I'll see how it works for a week then maybe give it a go :)

EDIT: Also in doing some research on here and other sites, I read (dont know how true this is) that the part i cut away from the middle was also to help machanics not to drop nuts etc from dropping into the TB.
Seems unlikly but plausable.

Also after taking it for a run, it was a tad louder.

Thanks for your constrcuctive input

I can't imagine that's what it was for originally as the first thing you do when you start working on the engine is take the air cleaner off, and there's not really a need to work with just the top half removed. It's a nice thought though!

I would try to make something that has the curve of the ram pipe feathering out to be more or less flush with the base of the filter housing. Sort of a sleeve that sits just inside the air cleaner outlet and simply forms a curve for air to follow from the air box into the TB.
