Help needed to choose a replacement 'stand-alone' fuel gauge to replace the one in the early combined speedo.

Sender is in the original 5 1/2 gallon tank. Can anyone tell me what resistance the sender has through the full to empty scale or what else I need to know to get a working unit.

Many thanks,

Bob

Bump!

I am sure amongst you experts there is one who can answer this please...... I just want to buy a stand-alone fuel gauge which will work with the standard mini sender. What electrical parameters do I need (other than 12V of course)?

Thanks,

Bob

The senders that mount with a locking bayonet ring operate between a NOMINAL 270 Ohms = Empty to 30 Ohms = Full. If you are looking for a Smiths fuel gauge, almost any will work as long as they are for cars that use the voltage stabilizer. MGBs and Midgets are probably the most common source/donors. If you are planning on an "aftermarket" (non-Smiths) gauge, look for ones matching the closest industry standard... 240 Ohms = Empty to 33 Ohms = Full. With an aftermarket gauge you will get an early indication of empty which most people would consider a an acceptable mis-match.

Hi Doug,

I put a quick "Thank you" earlier and it seems to have disapeared into the ether - probably find there is a double post later on!

Help much appreciated, it was exactly what I needed to know.

Kind regards,

Bob
