On the dashboard / in the boot / on the crossmember is pretty common though.

Or one of these, a battery terminal with a cutoff switch built in.

Have a look on the most recent page of my rebuild.
I think it looks fairly neat.

Like Skorticho says, I'm not giving pictures away - not that it matters. I don't own a Mini currently anyway, but different people feel differently about personal and car security. I'm only saying where people commonly mount them, it's no secret. Talk to any Mini owner and they will tell you the same thing.
Want it to be a secret? Don't post on here in the first place and think of somewhere ingenious to put it.

Precisely.
The cut off switches I've seen available are derived from race use, purely to cut power quickly and thus they aren't unique in their key design.
Any key will fit any lock, so fitting one in plain sight is at best to deter the opportunist thief and mostly for asthetic quality.
Calling someone a fool for offering elaboration as to why a posted question may not be met with comprehensive and diverse retort is somewhat short sighted.
No good deed, eh.

I think what the original OP is asking is for the 'general' idea of where best to mount a cut off switch. If you don't know, how do you find out?
And to be honest, they are not really designed as a security device more of a safety device, to cut the electrics in an emegency situation.
This is why you tend to see them on the scuttles of cars and clearly marked for race marshalls to see.
The 'Dis-car-nect' type are good, but still have their limitations.
