Afternoon all!

I'm looking for a decent, full, weld-in rollcage for my fibreglass shell build - I need something that is basically going to turn into a space frame inside the body and link the front and rear subframes, and provide the basic structure of the car.

I see Safety Devices do one that would suit nicely with a couple of slight alterations and additions.

But i wandered if anyone has any other recommendations or suggestions?

ETA: No..... I'm not going to try to weld to fibreglass, before someone points that out :whistling:

which shell have you got? normally they have all the standard bolt in points as standard shell, try amd find where all the metal plates are in your shell as well before you drill and miss lol

We have a safety devices weld in for our project at work. It is the best cage I have seen for a mini by miles, I wouldn't fit anything else for competition use.

Thats good to hear, this isnt for competition, but the only thing protecting me would be the cage, as the FG shell will break up like a water biscuit in so much as a light bump.

what happens when you bolt your subframes in? surely your not relying on on the fibreglass holding it when you go round a corner? i know other companies that make shells put steal at the subframe mounting points top and bottom, in the tunnel, crossmember and sills for strength and seatbelt mounts and all the normal roll cage points a minimum

Did you fully read my original post?

The rollcage forms the car's structural strength, the subframes dont mount to the shell, they mount to the cage via triangulated extensions and plates.

The shell is purely there to give the car shape, the cage forms a space frame inside it.

Okay your going to need a custom cage then me thinks, for a spaceframe it should be a jig made spaceframe so that the mounts for the subframes are perfect and not out of place by heat disturbance from welding. this is not a simple bolt together rollcage or spaceframe, try abs motorsport, one of theirs may be able to fit in yours

The weld in safety devices one is what you need, it has extensions that get very close to the subframe mounts, beggar to fit in a standard mini but well worth the effort. It is a proper weld in one though- no two pieces come attached and it does require a bit of fettling.

Agreed it does look spot on and damn strong, i'll need to drag the rear bars out a bit to meet with the top of the shockers, and fabricate some sort of front subframe mount, but i've heard nothing but good reports on them.

Had a chat with Pete at Fabricage earlier and he's well up for it too, so ill report back when i know more :-)
