Fitted hif 38 today, my problem is when i let go of the throttle it cuts out. I have filled the dash pot up ( took ages to fill up). Engine gets hot quick. Is it leaning out?

Cheers,

Iain.

There seems to be a good amount of dash pot oil everywhere, is this normal when it's being filled up for the first time in ages??

If you see dashpot oil you have over filled it.

Did the car start before you fitted the HIF38?

Are you sure you haven't overfilled it with dashpot oil....only really need enough in there to feel suction on the plunger.

What would happen if i over filled it? I couldn't see oil no, put i could feel pressure.

I have tried upping the idle speed but it's still happening, i'm pretty sure it's leaning out because of the new cone filter, no enough fuel to match the air...

First step would be to set the carb to base settings on air:fuel mix, assuming you've checked it over and nothing it stuck / missing / broken and there is no vac leak in the intake system.

Unless you start from a known position you're shooting in the dark for a solution. Set everything to base line and work from there.

I have found the problem, the dash pot piston is binding/getting stuck and doesn't fall of it's own strength in the dash pot. I found this out because after everytime it cuts out, to get it started again i have to take the dash pot damper out and push the piston back down with that, every time (say 6 or 7 times)
