Mine is an 83 1000 mayfair but can't see it being too different

If you have take your front and rear looms apart near the wiper motor maybe you have put the wrong wires together using the bullet connectors?? They are seperate circuits and shouldn't come into contact with each other, might have a short in the loom or near fuse box , but I doubt it to that extent.

Fuse sizes on pic aren't very visible but top to bottom should be 35A, 25A, 25A and 15A

hope this helps a little,

Graham

I would recommend referring to the closest diagram to your car in the Haynes manual. Even if it is not exactly the same, the wire colours are, and that is all you need, apart from fuse ratings, to get things connected back together properly. Or, post a list of all the wire colours, main plus stripe, that you have at the terminals and in-line fuseholders, and I will try to assist. Please note that there is green and light green, and you will need to clean the wires to see some of the colours correctly. I find that WD-40 and a wipe with a clean rag brings the colours up nicely.

When you say the rear screen heater flashes, I take it you mean the switch??

If you have messed about with the wires behind the grill, they are only lighting wires. Do your headlights dipped and main beam work as they should with the switches??

The heated rear screen takes it's feed from the indicator flasher unit, (round one), so if that is knackered it could be shorting through. Try replacing that first, only a couple of quid, but if it broken the indicators wont flash properly, do they flash using the steering wheel stalks??

This is the indicator / hazard circuit

Indicator wires are I think green with either red or white traces for left or right side. Do some more investigating and change the flasher switches as a start.

Hope this helps a little,

Graham

you'll find this is a dodgy line fuse as i had a similar problem, cant remember off hand which one so just clean all 3 or check the haynes manual :)

Always lift the fuse box off the bulkhead and check for corrosion on the rear on the box, these do get some and make a path to other circuits and the electrics start working when they should not and visa versa.
