How do all,

I have a wee problem with my clutch pedal catch every now and then.

It will go down as normal but stop short of its stopping point and it solid to push on.

I've checked the split pin and clevis pin (which is fitted from the heater side) and all looks good.

I can't really get a good look at it operating due to ducting etc but it definitely feels pedal related.

Any ideas or advice before I pull it all apart at the weekend?

Its a 1982 Mini city 998.

Have you checked the pivot outside on the clutch arm? spray some lube on the pivot and work it a time or two, I have seen clutch master cylinder and slave cylinders bite when it get worn and rusted up, Have you changed the clutch fluid receintly ? brake/clutch fluid is hydroscopic which means it absorbes mosture in the air and becomes contaminated with water ingress so the internal bores of the cylinders can rust, same applies to the brake circuit.

I would change the clutch fluid, lube the clutch arm pivot and try from there if its still doing it and your certain its not the clutch pedal inside the car, its time to start looking at the hydraulics and then the clutch in that order.

I've change the fluid and checked master cylinder when it was out and all worked fine.

This has all come about since changing my slave cylinder which has now firmed up nicely.

Will try lubing pivot up as hopefully now it has more pressure its causing it to catch.

Just a thought, is the throwout stop correctly set, and the locknut tight? I had an embarassing incident once, when the locknut must have been loose, and fell off, and the adjusting nut vibrated up tight against the casing, so suddenly the pedal would hardly move, and no clutch.

All's well with the throw out.

It only happens every now and then. The clutch works fine the rest of the time.

I think its just one of those things it'll either go away or get worse.

Update!!!!

Checked linkage (pedal to master cylinder) and there is a small amount on fluid.

So I have removed master cylinder for an overhaul.

Piston does move up and down but a little too free.

Would this be causing back pressure if fluid was to be force the wrong way?

Pedal moves fine on its own.

Master cylinder overhauled and all is now good!

Rechecked both clutch setting a both are fine so happy days.
