Hey guys my friend has a 89 1000cc engine in his 89 msyfair which is gold/yellow colour.

He wants to know If this is standard out the factory?

He gets the feelin it's a replacement engine hence it being gold/yellow but he can't be sure.

Any help be great :)

A lot of A series engines were painted yellow as standard, I believe the mayfair was one of them.

Is it this sort of colour?

I believe so although not 100% as its been months since I've seen the engine.

It def seems to be the orginal paint of the engine!

I believe that 998's were yellow as standard, where as 1275's were red. Apart from earlier A series (as opposed to the later A+) that were BMC green.

EDIT: I seem to recall that there were also a range of replacement/ reconditioned engines known as "goldseal" that were painted a gold colour though, but get someone to confirm this.

Std 998cc painted yellow in 1989. Check your engine number on Guessworks for spec.

From the introduction of the Metro in 1980 and the A+ they became yellow for 998cc and red for 1275cc engines.
Under BMC they were all green and BL they were all black. As said factory reconditioned were Goldseal and Silverseal.
