[Island Mini]

Hi

Looking into ways of lifting my engine out my mini however one of the main problems is I don't have access to an engine crane so I was thinking about fixing a lift to the roof of my garage but wanted to know the weight of the engine before my garage falls over!

A good thick rope wrapped round the engine and a loop at the top, a length of box section through the loop and one person to lift on each side.
Think a manual engine and gearbox is 145kg so would be around that mark

What I do is stand a length of 4 x 2 each side of the car from floor to roof truss. I can even lift the whole front of the car like that for access to the LCB Y piece, gearbox linkage etc etc

Yeah I do understand an auto is significantly heavier if I remember correctly so based on the manual figure I'm going to say about 190?

Pigeonto not quite sure what you mean, I'm picturing you lifting your car with two pieces of 4 x 2??

Have one at work and they are very useful, electric ones are only about £60

Yeah that would work I suppose however I would be taking it home on the plane with me (back to where my mini is) and can imagine that being pretty heavy with british airways love to charge me for heavy bags! was looking more for an idea I can put together when I get there

HaHa, no not quite. The lengths of wood,about 8ft long but cut to exactly the right length are extra uprights to prop up the roof basically and support it close to where you put your chain block or whatever you're using. No need to worry if the roof will take the weight as it's effectively being taken by the floor.
