Does anyone know of a source of technical specification for the pop rivets used on BMC vehicles? Specifically, I'd like to know the dimensions and material (e.g. aluminium, steel, stainless steel) for part DMP0829 (previously called 6K9788). I have a copy of a publication that lists the specifications for general bolts, nuts and washers used by BMC but it doesn't mention pop rivets.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm sure the pop rivets back then would not have been stainless, 1 its a job to compress and 2 cost, most likely a 1/2inch x 1/8 alloy rivet and 1/4inch x 1/8 alloy.

I always find the exploded diagrams on Somerfords website useful for find bolt sizes, rivets, screws etc... Then buy them somewhere else cheaper :-)

Thanks everyone for your comments. Yes, I know, discussions here are usually about exciting things like camshaft specifications and gearbox ratios so something as simple as pop rivets might seem a bit bizarre. Let me explain the background.

A colleague here in Australia is doing a bare metal respray of his Mini and in the process removed the compliance plate (an aluminium plate unique to Australia with car and safety compliance information stamped on it). He is fastidious about originality so wants to use the original style pop rivets if available. I have the BMC Australia factory drawing showing the drilling and installation instructions for the compliance plate, which identifies the pop rivet as DMP0829.

There are numerous pop rivets used across the BMC range of vehicles. For example, Body Service Parts List AKD3503 for the Mini shows five different rivets with the DAP part number prefix, three with DMP, one with DNP and two with DXR. Presumably these are different sizes and made of different materials.

The following document lists the common bolt, screw and washers and their part number.

Somerford recently announced the availability of one specific type of pop rivet, see here:

So where is the complete list of BMC pop rivet specifications documented?

Bearing in mind that plate was riveted on in Australia, it's probably a locally sourced part that was just given a number to make it work in the system. It might not be the same as any used over here even if the number is the same.

Maybe so, but my overarching question is about the specification of all BMC rivets, regardless of vehicle and application. Where is their specification documented?
