IM REALLY SORRY IF THERES ALREADY A POST ABOUT THIS TOPIC IVE TRIED SEARCHING BUT NOTHING.
I RECENTLY BOUGHT MY FIRST MINI ITS A 1976 MINI CLUBMAN ESTATE IN RUSSET BROWN AND ITS PRETTY MUCH IMMACULATE. BUT THERE IS RUST STARTING TO SHOW THROUGH, I WASH IT EVERY TWO WEEKS AS THATS ALL IT NEEDS MY WEEK ISNT THAT ALL MESSY AND I USE TOP QUALITY PRODUCTS AND I DONT WANT TO GO TO EXTREME LENGTHS OF GRINDING THE RUST DOWN FILLING IT AND HAVING AN ODD PATCH OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.
SO HERES MY QUESTION: IF I USED TOUCH UP PAINT ON THE RUST WILL IT SLOW DOWN THE DAMAGE ( I KNOW IT WILL LOOK NAFF BUT I WANT TO PRESERVE THE ORIGINAL PANELS)

The only way to stop rust is to cut it out, or sand it back and treat it.
A body shop. WILL, be able to match the paint. Russet brown is not a complicated colour, a good painter will be able to match it.

If anything it will seal the rust in and make the problem worse.
FYI talking in SHOUTY CAPITALS doesn't get rid of rust either just irritates us internet dwelling folkes. ;)

Much better, the people of the internet thank you!

Incidentally the majority of the reasons why a slightly rusty mini becomes a complete rotten fruit is usually because the slight rust issues are sealed over, by means of filler or new panels over the old rusty ones and it just brews until you need to do extensive work to fix it.
If your car is bubbling changes are the panel will be rusty below it and may need replacing.

if it is only a few small rust patches grind them out fill/ replace the panels depending how extensive the damage is prime then go to a paint shop or even halfords with your paint code which is AAE, and get a rattle can or 2 made up then follow the step on this video, http://www.youtube.c...?v=gw3SEiCf2UY. Im in the process of this at the moment although tonsilitus has meant ive been driving a patchy primed car for the past few days as im not well enough to spray just yet haha

Cheers Alex it isn't 2 bad its in the process of just showing and I've checked behind the panel as it was just below the filler cap and its all solid still. And I think I'll take it to a pro Pete otherwise I'll make a pro ******* up lol and I've seen worse on the roads over here cars have gone by with no doors or wind screen. X-D
