Hi all, okay so thinking about getting a spare engine and getting it bored out,1293 maybe but as a rough guess how much does it cost? Also how much do decent pistons cost?

Rebore should be £100 or less

Pistons up to about £450 for Omegas or Powermax around half that

well engine has been rebuilt and is awaiting placement into the fresh painted shell. All I can say is that Cooperman and many other TMFers recommended them (I spent hours reading threads about piston types/recommendations on TMF)

Oh and got TMF+ discount

The P21253 pistons, at under £50 each are excellent value and are good for up to 7000 rpm and 11:1 CR.
Allow between £20 & b£25 per bore with £20 being more likely if it's just 0.020" larger.
Then you'll need a crank re-grind at c.£50, main and big-end shells, crank thrust bearings, oil pump, cam followers and timing chain.
Then a full gasket set plus any work needed on the head such as new valve guides, valves (usually just exhausts, valve seat re-cutting and a head surface skim (c.£25)
After doing that you'll have a super engine.

Costs depend on how the bores are finished. More time, equals more money....

The last time I had a block bored (+.080 in one go) it was £108 + VAT, and that was nearly two years ago.
While that looks like a lot more than you *can* get it done for, the equipment they use is better than the mobile boring bar that get strapped to the top, and the honing process is also very good.

Thats one cut and a hone, as you increase in size or offset etc.... then as AC says the cost goes up.

Also some boring machines will NOT cut offset bores, if you need an offset make sure they can do it for you

Just out of curiosity, how much do you charge for a cank regrind? As I know of a friend with a 1275 now in bits that had only done 25k, but unfortunately run low on oil destroying the bearings.
