you cant fit twin 40's to a 5 port mini engine.........unless they are split webers and those are only used on race cars............you need quite a high specced engine to warrant the use of a weber, i wouldnt recommend a weber carb for a road car anyway.
This a more suitable answer than just Why!!

it was mentioned in conversation that it could be done and was pretty good, however if it is too much then that answers that :)
thanks for replying

You can fit twin webers to a 5 port, haven't you heard of splits ?This a more suitable answer than just Why!!
Well no actually that was B/S, the reason I asked why was because he may already have the 40's and can't afford to buy a 45. Or he maybe fitting then to a small bore engine or for some other reason..........Basically what I'm asking is why 40's we need more information...........
And i quote this from the forum rules

Also, saying that something isn't correct, but not explaining why it's incorrect doesn't help anyone either.

He says "you can't fit twin webers, unless you use splits"
Your response
"Haven't you heard of splits"
Seems like you're saying something is incorrect without reading it first.
However, your last response asking for more info from the op is fine.
I also agree that the op needs to give us a little more info when asking the question. Anyway, I don't want this thread to digress from the original content, do I'll send you a pm instead in a bit.

At the moment the engine is 1275 with a stage 3 head, 276 cam, but maybe going to a 1380 in the near future........
So a single 40 will just about cope with that sec, in fact it'll help to pull up the torque curve, but if you put a decent cam in it won't...........
When you upgrade to a 1380, you need the 45..........unless your gonna use a mg metro type cam.
thanks for your help thats cleared things up :)

Yep must admit to speed reading though that, but then again you went on to say, there only for a race car and that is what I said earlier....
What you speed reading ? (sarcasm)
The carb really needs to suit the camshaft that you intend to fit, if you are fitting a race cam then a Weber would suit the cam better, however if you intend to fit a fairly low duration camshaft 276 or less then an HIF 44 will be more than suitable....
There are some Minis with over 250bhp using a single HIF44, ok these are turbocharged and blowthrough at that, but still the HIF44 has a lot of merits, just don't bother putting it on a race type engine.
Its like baking a cake.... put in the wrong ingredients in and you have a ..... well you have cake, just not one that anyone wants...
